Ahi Tuna Rub

This ahi tuna rub creates a delicious, flavorful crust on ahi (yellowfin) tuna steaks.Makes a little more than 1 tablespoon, which is enough to season 2 ahi tuna steaks (with each steak weighing about 5 ounces).

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard*
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked hot paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ⅛ teaspoon dried rosemary
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a bowl and mix well.
  2. If you're not planning on using the rub right away, transfer it into an airtight container. Keep in a dark and cool place, such as the kitchen cabinet. It will stay fresh for at least 6 months.

Notes

  • *Dry mustard is also called mustard powder and refers to ground yellow mustard seeds.
  • How to use the rub: 
  • Pat raw tuna steaks dry using paper towels, then rub with the seasoning on both sides.
  • Grill or pan sear.
