  • 5 small green apples
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon or apple pie seasoning
  • 2 pie crusts store-bought or homemade

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Roll out one pie crust, place it into a pie dish that fits into your air fryer, and press down.
  2. Wash and slice the apples and combine them with sugar and the cinnamon in a bowl.
  3. Transfer the apples to a skillet and cook over low to medium heat for about 10 minutes until they begin to soften.
  4. Place the cooked apples onto the crust in the pie dish.
  5. Top with the second crust, pinch to seal and trim off any excess on the edges.
  6. Makes several slits or small holes in the top crust.
  7. Air fry for 17-25 minutes at 300 degrees F / 149 degrees C until golden brown and bubbly.

Notes

  • Be sure to select a pie pan that fits your air fryer. I used an 8-inch pie pan.
  • We used storebought pie crust, but you can make homemade pie crust.
  • If the pie crust circle has creases, gently roll on a lightly floured surface with a rolling pin.
  • Cut the apples just before you prepare the filling to prevent browning.
  • Cut apple chunks or slices.
  • When you toss the apples with the cinnamon and sugar mixture, add a splash of lemon juice to prevent the apples from browning.
  • You can prepare the apple mixture in advance and refrigerate it until you are ready to bake.
  • Brush the top pie crust with melted butter or use an egg wash for an extra golden crust.
  • Cut a few slits into the top of the crust before air frying.
  • If you have small pie pans, you can follow this same recipe to make mini pies.
  • Place a small circle of parchment paper below the pie plate in the air fryer basket to catch any bubbles that may occur while you bake the air fryer apple pie.
  • Air fryers all function differently, so the baking time for your air fryer should be used as a guide. Monitor and adjust based on your air fryer.
  • Serve warm topped with powdered sugar, whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream.
