Air fryer Chicken Parmesan
Air fryer Chicken Parmesan features thinly pounded chicken breasts coated in a crispy parmesan and panko breadcrumb crust. The chicken is air-fried until golden and topped with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese. The result is a breaded chicken dish with a crunchy exterior and tender interior, finished with a classic combination of tomato sauce and cheese. Fresh basil garnish adds a hint of herbal brightness to the savory flavors.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lb chicken breast boneless skinless
- ¼ Cup Parmesan Cheese shredded
- 1 Cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 egg beaten
- ½ Cup marinara sauce
- ½ Cup mozzarella cheese
- basil to garnish, a handful, fresh leaves
Instructions
Air-Fryer method:
- Line the air fryer basket with aluminum foil and preheat the air fryer to 360 degrees F.
- Cut the chicken breast into half and place them between two sheets of plastic wrap and gently pound with the flat side of meat mallet or a rolling pin. Pound each piece into thin pieces.
- Set up a plate with panko breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese.
- Whisk eggs in a bowl until frothy. Now dunk each chicken breast into the beaten egg and then into the breadcrumb mixture.
- Arrange the chicken into the air fryer basket, shaking off any excess bread crumbs. Cook for 6 minutes, flipping halfway through with a tong. Try to cook in batches if needed.
- Once golden, spread a spoonful of marinara sauce on top of each chicken. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top and continue cooking for additional 4 minutes until cheese melts or internal temperature reads 165 degrees F.
- Once the chicken is done, transfer it to a serving dish. Garnish with fresh basil and serve warm.
Oven-Method:
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and line baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place the breadcrumbs coated chicken onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even browning.
- Add a spoonful of marinara sauce on one side of the chicken and sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
- Flip the oven to broiler and broil on high for just 2-3 minutes until cheese is hot and bubbly. Once the chicken is done, transfer it to a serving dish.
- Garnish with fresh basil and serve warm.
