Ingredients

  • 1 package Biscuits large or jumbo size
  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon coarse salt

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Bring the water and baking soda to a boil in a large pot.
  2. Cut each biscuit into four pieces and roll the dough into balls.
  3. Once the water is boiling, add dough balls four at a time. Let them cook for 2-3 minutes until they float and expand.
  4. Use a slotted spoon to remove cooked dough and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to dry. Continue to boil the remaining dough balls.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees. Put the egg in a bowl and stir to mix.
  6. Place the dough balls in the air fryer basket, keeping them in a single layer and leaving room to expand. Brush each one with the egg wash.
  7. Air fry for 5-6 minutes until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining dough.
  8. Before serving, brush the pretzel pieces with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt.

Notes

  • Oven Baking: Put them on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and bake in the oven for 12 minutes.
  • Boiling them in a baking soda bath is essential for getting pretzel flavor. So don't be tempted to skip it.
  • Don't overcrowd the bites in boiling water or the air fryer. They need room to expand. Cook them in batches as needed.
  • Use parchment paper in the air fryer, so the soft dough doesn't stick.
