Apple and Peanut Butter Dog Treats
Homemade Apple and Peanut Butter Dog Treats combine peeled diced apples, flour, oats, cinnamon, salt, eggs, and peanut butter into a dough rolled out and shaped into cookies baked until golden and crisp. These treats have a firm texture suitable for dogs and a subtle sweetness from the apple and peanut butter.
Ingredients
- 1 cup apple peeled and finely diced
- 2½ cups flour
- ¾ cup oats
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 egg large, well beaten
- 3 tbsp peanut butter Side Note: Remember to double-check that your peanut butter does NOT contain Xylitol. This sweetener is highly toxic to dogs, creamy
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with a Silpat mat or parchment paper.
- Place the diced apples in a mixing bowl. Add the flour, oats, salt, and cinnamon to the bowl and mix until combined.
- Whisk together the beaten eggs with the peanut butter then add to the apple mixture and mix until combined. The dough will be dry and crumbly so add about 1/4 cup of warm water, and mix until it sticks together in a ball. Add a little more water if it's still too dry.
- Working on a floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/2-inch thickness. Using dog treat cutters, cut out desired shapes, and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake until golden brown and crisp, about 30-35 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack. Store in an airtight container in the freezer or refrigerator. Enjoy.
