Apple and Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Homemade Apple and Peanut Butter Dog Treats combine peeled diced apples, flour, oats, cinnamon, salt, eggs, and peanut butter into a dough rolled out and shaped into cookies baked until golden and crisp. These treats have a firm texture suitable for dogs and a subtle sweetness from the apple and peanut butter.

Description

The recipe mixes finely diced peeled apples with a combination of flour and oats for structure and texture, while cinnamon adds gentle flavor safe for dogs. Eggs and peanut butter bind the dough, which becomes workable with added warm water. Rolling the dough to a half-inch thickness and cutting into shapes ensures even baking and crispness.

Baked at 350°F for about 30-35 minutes, the treats cool to a firm and crunchy biscuit texture, ideal for dog chewing and snacking. These treats can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer to maintain freshness.

Using peanut butter without xylitol is crucial for canine safety. These treats provide a homemade alternative to store-bought snacks and allow control over ingredients given to dogs.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 cup apple peeled and finely diced
  • cups flour
  • ¾ cup oats
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 egg large, well beaten
  • 3 tbsp peanut butter Side Note: Remember to double-check that your peanut butter does NOT contain Xylitol. This sweetener is highly toxic to dogs, creamy

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with a Silpat mat or parchment paper.
  2. Place the diced apples in a mixing bowl. Add the flour, oats, salt, and cinnamon to the bowl and mix until combined.
  3. Whisk together the beaten eggs with the peanut butter then add to the apple mixture and mix until combined. The dough will be dry and crumbly so add about 1/4 cup of warm water, and mix until it sticks together in a ball. Add a little more water if it's still too dry.
  4. Working on a floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/2-inch thickness. Using dog treat cutters, cut out desired shapes, and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake until golden brown and crisp, about 30-35 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack. Store in an airtight container in the freezer or refrigerator. Enjoy.
