Apple, Bacon, and Cheddar Dog Treats
The Apple, Bacon, and Cheddar Dog Treats combine whole wheat and all-purpose flours with shredded cheddar, cooked bacon bits, grated apple, butter, olive oil, egg, milk, and fresh curly parsley to create a textured, savory dog biscuit. Rolled out and cut with a bone-shaped cutter, these baked treats offer a balance of meaty, cheesy, and slightly sweet apple notes. They provide a crunchy and flavorful snack option specially made for dogs, with careful ingredient choices to suit pet consumption.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp butter room temperature, unsalted
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- 1 apple peeled & grated (no pits, seeds, or core from apple!!!)
- 1½ cups whole wheat flour
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1½ cups cheddar cheese shredded
- ¼ cup Bacon chopped into bits, cooked
- 1 tbsp parsley Use curly variety only, others may be toxic, fresh curly, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with a silpat mat.
- Combine the butter, olive oil, and egg with a whisk until well combined.
- Add the milk and grated apple, then whisk.
- Add the whole wheat flour and white flour; mix until just combined.
- Add most of the cheddar, bacon, and curly parsley. Mix until combined.
- Side Note: If it's too sticky, add a bit more flour. If it's too dry, add a bit more milk.
- On a lightly floured work surface, knead the dough for 30 seconds until smooth.
- Roll out the dough into a 10-inch circle, about 1/2 inch thick.
- Sprinkle some of the remaining bacon bits, cheese, and parsley on the dough, then lightly press down and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Using a bone-shaped cookie cutter, cut out the dog bones.
- Bake until lightly golden, 20 minutes.
- Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or the freezer for 6 months.
