Apple Cranberry Sauce
Apple Cranberry Sauce combines fresh cranberries and peeled chopped apples sweetened with honey and flavored with fresh ginger, cinnamon, orange zest and juice, plus a splash of balsamic vinegar. The sauce cooks until tender and thickened, offering a fruit-forward condiment with balanced sweetness and subtle spice that can be served chilled or at room temperature.
Ingredients
- 2 cups cranberries fresh
- 2 medium apple peeled, cored and chopped
- 1/3 cup honey
- 2 teaspoons ginger grated fresh
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- orange zest and juice from one
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
Instructions
- Combine all of the ingredients in a medium saucepan.
- Cook over medium-low heat for 18 to 20 minutes, until the fruit is tender and the liquid has thickened. The sauce will thicken as it cools. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
Notes
- Prepare the cranberry sauce ahead and refrigerate for a day or two to enhance flavors before serving.
- You may omit fresh ginger if preferred, but it adds distinctive spice and warmth.
- Freeze leftover sauce in a sealed container for up to three months; thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.
