Apple Crisp Recipe

Warm cinnamon-spiced apples are baked under a golden, buttery oat and brown sugar crumble.

Ingredients

Topping
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¾ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup Finely chopped pecans or coconut, or walnuts, optional
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt optional
Apples
  • 6 cups sliced Granny Smith apples peeled and cored, sliced ¼-inch thick
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the butter, brown sugar, ¼ cup flour, and cinnamon. Mix with a fork or pastry blender until the mixture sticks together and forms pea-sized crumbs. Stir in the oats and pecans or coconut (if using).
  3. In a large bowl toss the sliced apples with sugar, flour, and cinnamon.
  4. Place the apples in a 9x9 or 2qt baking dish and sprinkle with the oat topping.
  5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden and the apples are tender. Cool 10 minutes before serving.

  • Granny Smith apples are firm and tart, making an ideal choice for this dessert, but you can use any other firm apple variety. Softer varieties can work but and also become mushy so check them early.
