Applemoes (Dutch Applesauce)

Applemoes is a traditional Dutch applesauce made by simmering peeled apple chunks with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon stick, and water until soft. The apples are cooked down to a chunky or smooth texture as preferred, resulting in a sweet, gently spiced sauce. Its warm spice and natural sweetness make it a versatile accompaniment for meals or a simple dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg apple around 8 apples
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 60 ml water
  • cinnamon stick

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Peel the apples and chop them into chunks. Sprinkle them with some lemon juice to prevent the browning and put them in big pot.
  2. Add a few cups of water depending on your size pot. Basically, put the apples in a few centimeters of water.
  3. Cover and simmer the apples until they become fully cooked, occasionally sprinkling sugar over them.
  4. Leave it chunky or smash it slightly to create a finer texture. Taste and adjust the sweetness or the flavor of cinnamon as preferred.
