Applemoes (Dutch Applesauce)
Applemoes is a traditional Dutch applesauce made by simmering peeled apple chunks with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon stick, and water until soft. The apples are cooked down to a chunky or smooth texture as preferred, resulting in a sweet, gently spiced sauce. Its warm spice and natural sweetness make it a versatile accompaniment for meals or a simple dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 kg apple around 8 apples
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 60 ml water
- cinnamon stick
Instructions
- Peel the apples and chop them into chunks. Sprinkle them with some lemon juice to prevent the browning and put them in big pot.
- Add a few cups of water depending on your size pot. Basically, put the apples in a few centimeters of water.
- Cover and simmer the apples until they become fully cooked, occasionally sprinkling sugar over them.
- Leave it chunky or smash it slightly to create a finer texture. Taste and adjust the sweetness or the flavor of cinnamon as preferred.
