Ingredients
- 2 avocados
- 1 large tomato
- 2 pounds ground beef 80% lean / 20% fat
- 4 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- lettuce leaves
- 4 lices Swiss or pepper jack cheese
- 4 whole-wheat hamburger buns
Instructions
- Prepare the avocado by slicing it in half, removing the seed, peeling it, and cutting it into slices.
- Slice the tomato into rounds.
- Preheat your grill or pan over medium-high heat.
- Season the ground beef with salt and pepper, then form into four 8-ounce patties, making them slightly larger than the buns. Press a thumbprint into the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
- Grill the patties for about 4 minutes on the first side.
- Flip the burgers, add a slice of cheese to each, and place the buns cut-side down on the grill. Continue cooking to your desired doneness, about 2 to 4 additional minutes for medium.
- Assemble the burgers by layering lettuce, tomato slices, avocado slices, and the cheese-topped patty on the bottom bun. Cap with the top bun and serve immediately.
