Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sushi Rice: Cook the sushi rice according to the package instructions. Once cooked, let it cool slightly.
  2. Season the Rice: In a small bowl, whisk together rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Gently fold this mixture into the warm rice, being careful not to mash it.
  3. Set Up Your Rolling Station: Place a bamboo sushi mat on a clean surface and cover it with plastic wrap to prevent sticking.
  4. Assemble the Roll: Lay a sheet of nori seaweed on the plastic wrap-covered bamboo mat, shiny side down. Wet your fingers to prevent sticking and evenly spread a thin layer of seasoned sushi rice over the nori, leaving about ½ inch of space at the top for sealing. (Optional: flip the rice-covered nori over.)
  5. Add Fillings: Place avocado slices in a row across the center of the rice.
  6. Roll the Sushi: Lift the edge of the bamboo mat and gently roll the sushi away from you, tucking in the filling as you go. Apply gentle but firm pressure to keep the roll tight without squeezing too hard.
  7. Slice the Roll: (Pro Tip: Cover the roll with plastic wrap before cutting for cleaner slices!) Use a sharp, non-serrated knife, and wet the blade with water between cuts to prevent sticking. Slice into bite-sized pieces (about 6-8 per roll).
  8. Serve and Enjoy: Arrange the avocado rolls on a plate and serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi. Sprinkle with sesame seeds for extra flavor.

Notes

  • Use fresh, ripe avocado for the best texture.
  • Don’t overload the filling—it makes rolling harder.
  • Chill the roll for 5 minutes before slicing for cleaner cuts.
