Bacon Butty
Description
The Bacon Butty is an uncomplicated sandwich made by frying or grilling three rashers of bacon until cooked but not overly crisp. The cooked bacon is placed inside a soft bread roll, such as a Morton roll, and the bread may be buttered beforehand for extra richness. The sandwich is then closed with the remaining half of the roll.
The balance of tender, flavorful bacon and the softness of the roll creates a comforting and hearty snack or meal. This simple combination is often served alongside a hot beverage like tea for a traditional casual meal.
Additional condiments like brown sauce (HP Sauce) or ketchup can be added according to personal preference to enhance the flavor. The recipe is adaptable with either back or streaky bacon, depending on desired fat content and taste.
Ingredients
- 3 rashers Bacon back or streaky (American) bacon, preferably nitrate and sugar free
- 1 roll soft, like a Morton roll (in Scotland)
- 1 tsp butter optional, really only to make it dairy-free
Instructions
- Cook the bacon in a frying pan, grill or air fryer until done, but not super crisp and hard.
- Butter the bread roll, if using. Then add the bacon.
- Place the other half of the bread on top.
- Enjoy with a hot cup of tea!
Notes
- Bacon can be cooked using a frying pan, grill, or air fryer for convenience.
- Optional spread of brown sauce or HP Sauce enhances the flavor if desired.
- Ketchup is an acceptable condiment choice for added sweetness.
