Ingredients

  • 3 pounds orange yam or other sweet potato, peeled and cut in half or cubed
  • 6 tablespoons butter melted
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ⅔ cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon cloves ground
  • ¼ salt

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Grease a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Peel the yams with a peeler. Slice the yams in half the long way. Slice into half in half moon shaped pieces. Add all yams to the baking dish.
  3. In a medium-sized bowl add the melted butter, brown sugar, white sugar, orange juice, vanilla extract, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, ground cloves, and salt. Stir until well mixed.
  4. Pour the butter and sugar mixture over the yams. Gently stir to coat the yams evenly with butter.
  5. Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 30 minutes.
  6. Remove the baking dish and baste the yams with the butter sauce with a silicone brush or spoon.
  7. Return the baking dish to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until sweet potatoes are golden and tender when pierced with a fork. Serve and enjoy! The sauce will continue to thicken as the yams begin to cool.

Notes

  • Use orange-fleshed yams or sweet potatoes peeled and sliced evenly for consistent cooking.
  • For a thinner glaze, increase orange juice to 1/2 cup instead of 1/3 cup.
  • Add 3-4 cups of mini marshmallows on top after baking, then bake at 450°F for 2-3 minutes to brown if desired.
  • The sauce thickens as the yams cool, enhancing the glazed texture.
