Balsamic Glaze Recipe (Balsamic Reduction)
This balsamic glaze combines balsamic vinegar and optional honey or maple syrup, gently simmered until reduced to a syrupy consistency. It provides a sweet and tangy condiment that thickens as it cools, ideal for drizzling over salads, vegetables, or meats to enhance their flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1-2 Tablespoon honey or maple syrup
Instructions
- Add the balsamic vinegar and any sweetener to a small pot.
- Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally until reduced by half or until the sauce coats the back of a spoon. It will thicken more as it cools.
- Use immediately or store in a sealed container in the fridge.
Notes
- The glaze thickens as it cools; stir in a little water to thin if it becomes too thick.
- If the glaze is too thin after cooling, gently reheat it to thicken back up.
- Choose a good quality balsamic vinegar, such as from Modena, for best flavor.
- A sweetener is optional; the glaze can be made without honey or maple syrup.
- Do not leave the pot unattended to prevent burning or overboiling.
