Streusel Topping
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons butter cool, but slightly softened
- 1/4 cup walnuts chopped
Banana Bread
- 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour whole wheat flour works well also
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter room temperature
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs room temperature
- 4 very ripe bananas mashed with large fork
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips plus more to sprinkle on top after baked
- 1/2 cup walnuts chopped
Instructions
Prepare Loaf Pan
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease or butter and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan. Set aside.

Streusel Topping
- Add flour, brown sugar, andcinnamon to a small mixing bowl and blend. Cut in the butter using a pastry blender or fork, until coarse crumbs. Stir in chopped Walnuts. Set aside.
Banana Bread
- In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar until blended. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating each well.
- With a wooden spoon, stir in the mashed bananas, buttermilk and vanilla extract. Stir in prepared flour mixture. Don’t over mix. Stir in chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.
- Spoon thick batter into prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the top. Place in oven and bake 60-70 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove from oven and sprinkle with additional mini chocolate chips (if desired). Cool 15 minutes in the pan on a wire cooling rack. Remove the bread from pan and cool on the wire rack. Serve warm, or at room temperature.
Notes
- Pecans can be used instead of walnuts.
- Use milk, semi-sweet, or dark chocolate.
