Beef Tips and Gravy

Decadent beef tips and gravy loaded with mushrooms and delicious flavor is served over mashed potatoes for the perfect meal the whole family will love.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds cubed beef stewing beef, beef tips, chuck
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large white onion diced
  • 1 pound fresh mushrooms cleaned and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic 
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 
  • 3-4 drops browning sauce
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 4 ervings mashed potatoes
  • cornstarch slurry

Instructions

  1. Season the beef with salt and pepper.
  2. Place a tablespoon of oil into a lidded braising pan or Dutch oven and heat on medium-high heat.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil to the pot. Add the beef to the heated pan and brown on all side. Transfer to a plate.
  4. Add in the butter and then the onions and cook until the onions begin to brown.
  5. Add in the sliced mushrooms and saute until the mushrooms are cooked and the onions have browned.
  6. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, around a minute. Sprinkle the flour over top and stir until it dissolves.
  7. Deglaze the bottom of the pan with some of the beef broth, scraping the bottom of the pot to remove the browned bits and dissolving the flour into it.
  8. Add the beef cubes in, the remaining beef broth, Worcestershire sauce and a few drops of browning sauce. Stir in completely then cover the pot and bring to a low simmer.
  9. Simmer on low for 60 minutes, or until the beef is tender.
  10. Remove the bay leaf. If desired ,thicken the gravy using a cornstarch slurry.
  11. Serve beef tips and gravy over a side of mashed potatoes and garnish with fresh parsely.
