Ingredients

The Seasoning:
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika or dried oregano
  • ½ - 1 teaspoon salt based on your preference
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes or ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper for a little kick
The Turkey:
  • 1 pound ground turkey 94% is preferred, but 99% lean works
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 - 4 tablespoon chicken broth chicken stock, or water

Instructions

Make the Seasoning:
    Cup of Yum
  1. First, combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Stir or whisk to combine.
  2. Rule of thumb: About 1.5 tablespoons of seasoning per 1 pound of ground turkey.
Cooking the Turkey:
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground turkey to the pan and cook for 5 minutes, breaking up the turkey as it cooks.
  3. When the turkey is no longer pink, reduce the heat to low, then add 1 ½ Tablespons of the seasoning and stir to combine. Then mix 2 Tablespoons of the chicken broth or water (this ensures juicy ground turkey). Allow it to simmer for a few minutes until the liquid reduces. If you want it to be juicier, add up to 2 Tablespoons more.
Serving:
  1. Serve taco-style with tortillas, shredded cheese, guacamole, salsa, and any other taco fillings you like. Or serve with white or brown rice and your favorite roasted vegetable. Enjoy!

  • Seasoning Rule of Thumb: Use about 1.5 tablespoons of seasoning per 1 pound of ground turkey. I always recommend tasting and adjusting based on your preference once the turkey is cooked through.
  • Ground Chicken or Beef: You can certainly use this turkey seasoning for ground beef or chicken. Feel free to adjust the quantities to match your taste preferences when seasoning different meats.
  • Chicken Breast Seasoning: You can use this seasoning to season chicken breasts. Simply coat the chicken breasts with the seasoning mixture before cooking, whether you grill, bake, or pan-sear them for a tasty and versatile chicken dish.
  • Make Triple: This ground turkey seasoning blend lasts 4 to 6 months when stored in an airtight container. Making double or triple the recipe is excellent for meal prep and will save you time.
  • Storing Cooked Ground Turkey: Cooked ground turkey can last in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days when stored in an airtight container.
  • Storing Seasoning: Store homemade seasoning in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain its freshness. It will last for up to 4 to 6 months if stored correctly.
