Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 3 cups Water (or stock)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ tsp Turmeric
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Heat the olive oil in a saute pan over medium-high heat. Sauté the onion until golden.
  2. Add in the garlic and cook for about a minute.
  3. Add the rice and cook for a couple of minutes.
  4. Then add the turmeric, salt, pepper. Give it a good stir. Then add the cinnamon stick and water. Bring to a simmer, and cook until the water is almost completely evaporated, about 10 minutes.
  5. Cover and cook the rice for another 15 minutes over medium low heat until the rice is tender and fluffy.
  6. Turn the heat off and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Fluff using a fork and serve.

Notes

  • Rinse for Perfection: Always rinse your basmati rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. This step removes excess starch, preventing the rice from becoming sticky and ensuring fluffy, separate grains.
  • Let It Rest: After cooking, turn off the heat and let the rice sit, covered, for 10-15 minutes. This resting period allows the steam to finish cooking the rice, ensuring a perfectly fluffy texture.
  • Fluff with a Fork: Use a fork to gently fluff the rice before serving. This helps to separate the grains and prevents them from clumping together.
