Blackening Seasoning
Blackening Seasoning is a versatile spice blend that includes paprika, cayenne pepper, onion and garlic powders, black pepper, salt, thyme, and fennel seeds. It is designed to enhance proteins through searing, adding a smoky, spicy crust. The seasoning can be stored for future use and lightly crushed before use to freshen the aroma.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon paprika sweet
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 ½ teaspoons onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon thyme gently crushed, dried
- ¼ teaspoon fennel seeds , gently crushed
Instructions
- Add the spices to a small bowl and mix well. Store in an airtight container in a cool dark place for up to 3 months.
- Optional: Lightly crush the spices with a mortar and pestle to open the flavors even more.
- To use, pat the surface of your protein dry then drizzle with oil or butter. Sprinkle evenly with the blackening spice and sear, grill, or bake.
