Blistered Shishito Peppers
Blistered Shishito Peppers are lightly charred peppers cooked quickly in olive oil with a splash of soy sauce, Maggi seasoning, and lime juice. The peppers develop blistered skins with a tender bite and a balanced savory and citrusy glaze. While most shishitos are mild with a slight sweetness, occasional peppers deliver a mild heat, adding interest to this simple appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 cups shishito pepper or Padrón chiles
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce low sodium
- 1 teaspoon Maggi seasoning
- 1 lime juiced
- salt sea salt
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large cast-iron skillet or other heavy skillet over medium-high heat.
- Place peppers and drizzle with soy sauce, Maggi seasoning, and lime juice.
- Cook peppers, turning occasionally, until they begin to blister on all sides.
- Sprinkle with salt and serve immediately.
Notes
- Shishito peppers are mostly mild and slightly sweet, but occasionally one can be mildly spicy.
- Serve the peppers immediately after cooking to enjoy their blistered texture and fresh flavors.
