Ingredients

For The Blood Orange Margarita:
  • 3 ounces blood orange juice, fresh
  • 1 ounce lime juice fresh
  • 2 ounces tequila silver
  • 1 ounce Grand Marnier
  • simple syrup optional, 1/2 ounce
For The Smoky Salt Rim:
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika Spanish
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 lime wedge

Instructions

  1. To make salt rim, mix salt, sugar and paprika together and spread on a small plate. Use a lime wedge to moisten the edge of a glass, then dip edge into salt mixture.
  2. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add all ingredients for blood orange margarita. Shake until fully mixed, then pour into glass. I prefered to serve mine without ice, but you can serve over ice if you would like,

Notes

  • The sweetener is optional; try the cocktail without simple syrup first and adjust to taste.
  • Grand Marnier provides a distinctive flavor compared to triple sec or Cointreau commonly used in margaritas.
  • Five to six blood oranges are typically needed to yield about half a cup of juice for this recipe.
