Bourbon Peach Smash
The Bourbon Peach Smash combines diced fresh peaches, mint leaves, and bourbon shaken together for a refreshing cocktail. The muddling of peaches and mint releases lively fruit juices and aromatic oils, while the addition of chilled ginger beer or seltzer water creates a light, fizzy finish. This drink provides a balance of sweetness and herbal notes, ideal for enjoying during warm weather or as a vibrant change of pace in mixed drinks.
Ingredients
- 1/2 to 1 ounce brown sugar see note, simple syrup
- 1/2 large peach , diced (about 1/2 cup)
- 3-4 large mint leaves
- 2 ounces bourbon
- plash ginger beer chilled, preferred or seltzer water
- ice
- mint for garnish, fresh, peach sliced
- peach for garnish, fresh, peach sliced
Instructions
- Add peaches, mint leaves, and simple syrup to the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Gently muddle to release the peach juices and mint oils. (Over-muddling the mint will cause it to become bitter.)
- Add bourbon, fill the shaker with ice, and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.
- Top with ginger beer or seltzer water. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs and a peach slice.
Notes
- Choose a spicy ginger beer to add depth to the cocktail's finish.
- If using seltzer instead of ginger beer, add about 1/2 ounce lemon juice to balance flavor.
- Adjust simple syrup amount based on peach sweetness and personal taste, typically between 1/2 and 1 ounce.
- To prepare brown sugar simple syrup, dissolve equal parts brown sugar and hot water; store cooled syrup refrigerated for up to 3 weeks.
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit bourbon and simple syrup, muddle peaches and mint with peach juice and lemon juice, then top with ginger beer or ginger ale to taste.
