Bourbon Peach Smash

The Bourbon Peach Smash combines diced fresh peaches, mint leaves, and bourbon shaken together for a refreshing cocktail. The muddling of peaches and mint releases lively fruit juices and aromatic oils, while the addition of chilled ginger beer or seltzer water creates a light, fizzy finish. This drink provides a balance of sweetness and herbal notes, ideal for enjoying during warm weather or as a vibrant change of pace in mixed drinks.

Description

Bourbon Peach Smash starts with fresh diced peach and mint gently muddled to extract natural juices and flavors without bitterness. Brown sugar or simple syrup is added to adjust sweetness depending on the peaches' ripeness and personal preference. The mixture is combined with bourbon and shaken with ice to chill thoroughly before straining into a glass with fresh ice. Topping the cocktail with spicy ginger beer or seltzer water adds effervescence and a slight bite. The garnish of mint sprigs and peach slices complements the ingredients visually and aromatically.

The interplay of fresh peach and mint with the warmth of bourbon creates a fruity yet balanced drink. The gentle muddling maintains freshness without overpowering bitterness, and the sparkling finish lifts the cocktail for easy sipping. Adjusting syrup levels allows customization based on sweetness preferences.

This cocktail suits casual gatherings and pairs well with lighter appetizers or outdoor refreshments. Its bright fruit and aromatic mint offer a contrast to bourbon’s depth, making for a refreshing beverage option on warm days or as an alternative to classic whiskey cocktails.

Using simple syrup made from brown sugar enhances complexity, and opting for spicy ginger beer adds complementary heat. If choosing seltzer, a splash of lemon juice can help maintain balance. This drink can be adjusted to taste by varying the peach quantity and sweetness for optimal flavor.

  • To prepare brown sugar simple syrup, dissolve equal parts brown sugar and hot water; store cooled syrup refrigerated for up to 3 weeks.
