Breaded Tofu Strips
Breaded Tofu Strips feature extra-firm tofu cut into finger-sized strips, coated in a cornstarch-soy mixture, and covered with a breadcrumb and nutritional yeast blend before frying to a golden crisp. Ingredients
- 14 to 16 ounces tofu extra firm
- ½ cup corn starch
- ¼ cup of water
- 2 Tablespoons soy sauce
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 Tablespoon nutritional yeast
- salt pinch
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- ½ cup barbecue sauce
Instructions
- Drain and press the tofu and cut the block into strips the size and length of a finger.
- In a medium bowl, combine the cornstarch, water, and soy sauce and whisk thoroughly with a fork.
- Pour breadcrumbs, nutritional yeast, and salt onto a plate and mix thoroughly.
- Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.
- Dip the tofu strips into the cornstarch mixture until evenly coated and immediately press into the breadcrumbs until all sides of the tofu are completely covered.
- Once the oil is hot, lay the tofu on the pan and cook until it turns golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes per side.
- Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and serve with bbq sauce.

- Press tofu thoroughly to remove excess water for optimal crispiness.
- Use extra-firm tofu only to achieve a crunchy coating.
- Air fryer option: Arrange coated tofu strips in a single layer; cook at 400°F for 12-15 minutes, shaking halfway through.
- Baking option: Bake coated strips at 400°F for 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway and spraying with oil to maintain crunch.
- Serve breaded tofu while warm to enjoy the best texture.
