Buffalo Wild Wings General Tso Wings

Crispy fried chicken wings tossed in a sweet, tangy, and slightly spicy General Tso sauce - a perfect recreation of the discontinued Buffalo Wild Wings favorite.

Ingredients

Wings
  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • vegetable or canola oil for deep frying
Sauce
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic 
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon minced ginger root
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup dry sherry or dry white wine
  • 14 ounces chicken broth

  1. If necessary, cut the wings into drumettes and wingettes. Be sure to cut off the wing tip (you can save this for making chicken stock). Pat the wings dry with a paper towel.
  2. In a deep fryer, heat the oil to 375°F. Deep fry the chicken wings for 10 to 12 minutes, depending on their size, until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F. Remove the wings from the fryer and transfer to a wire rack to drain.
  3. Whisk together all the ingredients for the sauce in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat. Cook until thickened. Then reduce the temperature to a simmer.
  4. Place 1/4 of the wings in a medium-sized bowl. Add a ladle of sauce and gently toss. Repeat with remaining wings and sauce. Serve immediately.
