Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups buttermilk
- ½ cup unsalted butter melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Pour in the buttermilk and stir until just combined. The dough will be sticky.
- Pour the melted butter into an 8x8-inch baking dish.
- Spoon the dough into the baking dish, directly on top of the melted butter. Use a spatula to spread the dough evenly.
- Using a knife, cut the dough into 9 squares. This will help the biscuits bake evenly and make them easier to separate after baking.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the biscuits to cool in the pan for a few minutes before cutting them along the pre-scored lines and serving.
Cup of Yum
Notes
- Use cold buttermilk for the best results; it helps activate the baking powder.
- Mix the dough just until combined to keep the biscuits tender.
- Score the dough before baking to make it easier to cut into squares after baking.
- Store leftover biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- Freeze cooled biscuits in a freezer-safe bag for up to 2 months; reheat in the oven or microwave.
