Butterscotch Sauce

This sweet and buttery Butterscotch Sauce is the perfect topping for so many desserts and treats! It’s rich and creamy and easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 8 Tablespoons of unsalted stick butter
  • 1 ½ cups dark brown sugar packed
  • ½ teaspoon flaked salt I used Maldon’s
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium size saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the brown sugar, and salt and stir with a silicone spatula until it’s mixed.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil stirring frequently.
  4. Reduce heat to maintain a steady low boil for 2-3 minutes while continuing to stir frequently.
  5. Add the cream and return it to a low boil.
  6. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently.
  7. Add the vanilla and salt and stir to combine.
  8. Allow it to cool slightly before transferring it to a glass jar. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
  9. Store in the refrigerator and rewarm slowly by microwaving the jar for 20-30 seconds at a time, stirring intermittently until heated through. Will save for approximately 2-4 weeks in the refrigerator.
