Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 pound pecans

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. In a small bowl combine the first 3 ingredients.  Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the water with the egg white until airy and light. Add the pecan halves and stir to coat.
  4. Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the pecans.  Mix together evenly and spread evenly onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Bake for about 40 minutes, until pecans are browned and the sugar has caramelized.  Be sure to stir the pecans regularly as they cook.

Notes

  • Add your favorite spices like pumpkin pie spice, ginger, or apple pie spice.
  • Try a small pinch of cayenne pepper or 1 teaspoon of vanilla extra added to the egg.
  • Swap out the pecans for other nuts like cashews, almonds, or walnuts.
  • Add candied pecans to salad (especially great with kale winter salad or spinach salad).
  • Add them to a bowl of yogurt, crush them over a breakfast smoothie or smoothie bowl.
  • Drizzle with dark chocolate to take them to the next level.
  • Place them in a mason jar and tie it with a ribbon as a nice homemade gift.
