Ingredients

For the Biscuits
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 TB granulated sugar
  • 1 TB baking powder
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp table salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk lukewarm
  • ½ cup butter melted
  • 1 ½ cup sharp cheddar cheese shredded
For the Butter Topping
  • 3 TB butter melted
  • 1 TB freshly chopped chives
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat oven to 425F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and butter. Use a rubber spatula to gently fold flour mixture with the butter mixture just until no flour streaks remain; small lumps are fine. Gently fold in the cheese.
  4. Form dough into 12 evenly sized mounds and place them 2-inches apart on prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 15-16 minutes or just until golden brown. While biscuits are baking, make the butter topping by combining butter, chives, and garlic powder in a small bowl.
  6. Once biscuits are done baking, gently brush the tops with butter mixture and serve immediately.

  • For the best flavor, grate your own block of high-quality cheddar cheese. Pre-shredded cheese often has added anti-caking agents that can affect the texture and flavor of your biscuits.
  • I use an ice cream scooper to evenly form drop biscuits, which also helps them all bake evenly.
  • For a smoother look to your biscuits, dampen hands with a bit of water and gently roll the biscuits into balls.
  • You can also roll the dough out to a 1 ¼” thick rectangular sheet and use a 2 1/2 “ biscuit cutter to create perfectly circular biscuits.
