Cheese Saganaki: Fried Feta Cheese

Cheese Saganaki consists of thick slices of feta cheese coated with flour, egg, and sesame seeds before being fried until golden. The result is a crunchy, toasted exterior with a soft and slightly melted feta inside. Served hot, it is traditionally enjoyed with a drizzle of honey, combining salty and sweet flavors.

  • 6 lices feta cheese 2-3 cm (about 1 inch) thick
  • 200 g all-purpose flour
  • 3 egg medium
  • 200 g sesame seeds
  • black pepper
  • sunflower oil for frying
For serving:
  • honey

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. In 3 separate bowls, place the flour with a little pepper, lightly whisked eggs, and the sesame seeds.
  2. Take each slice of feta and coat with the flour, cover with egg, and then with the sesame seeds.
  3. Fry over medium heat until golden.
  4. Serve with honey.

Notes

  • Maintain medium heat during frying to prevent the sesame seeds from burning.
  • Ensure cheese slices are thick enough to hold shape but allow softening inside.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the contrast of crispy crust and softened feta.
