Cheese Saganaki: Fried Feta Cheese
Cheese Saganaki consists of thick slices of feta cheese coated with flour, egg, and sesame seeds before being fried until golden. The result is a crunchy, toasted exterior with a soft and slightly melted feta inside. Served hot, it is traditionally enjoyed with a drizzle of honey, combining salty and sweet flavors.
Ingredients
- 6 lices feta cheese 2-3 cm (about 1 inch) thick
- 200 g all-purpose flour
- 3 egg medium
- 200 g sesame seeds
- black pepper
- sunflower oil for frying
For serving:
- honey
Instructions
- In 3 separate bowls, place the flour with a little pepper, lightly whisked eggs, and the sesame seeds.
- Take each slice of feta and coat with the flour, cover with egg, and then with the sesame seeds.
- Fry over medium heat until golden.
- Serve with honey.
Notes
- Maintain medium heat during frying to prevent the sesame seeds from burning.
- Ensure cheese slices are thick enough to hold shape but allow softening inside.
- Serve immediately to enjoy the contrast of crispy crust and softened feta.
