Cheeseburger Casserole
Cheeseburger Casserole layers seasoned ground beef mixed with pickles, tomatoes, and condiments, topped with American cheese and covered by a French bread dough crust. The casserole bakes until the dough is golden and sprinkled with sesame seeds for added texture. This dish brings familiar cheeseburger flavors into an easy-to-serve baked form.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef , (85/15)
- 1/2 yellow onion chopped
- 1/4 cup dill pickles chopped
- 14.5 ounces diced tomatoes drained
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper coarse ground
- 12 lices American cheese
- 1 French bread dough Pillsbury or store brand, canned
- 1 egg beaten, large
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 tablespoon sesame seed
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees.
- To a large dutch oven, add the ground beef and onion on medium high heat, stirring until cooked, about 5-6 minutes.
- Add in the chopped pickles, diced tomatoes, ketchup, mustard, salt and black pepper.
- Add the ground beef mixture into a 9x13 baking dish.
- Top with sliced American cheese evenly over the beef mixture.
- Unroll the French bread dough over the cheese slices
- Mix the egg well with water then brush the top of the dough with the egg mixture and top with sesame seeds.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes.
