Chipotle Black Beans Copycat
Chipotle Black Beans are the perfect addition to a burrito bowl or a side for your taco night! Tender beans simmered in a spiced sauce with onions and garlic. If you love Chipotle and their famous burritos and bowls then you are in for a treat! My homemade black beans taste even better than the restaurant and now you can make a budget friendly version at home.

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 small onion (diced)
- 6 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 bay leaf
- ½ tablespoon cumin
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 can black beans (approximately 2 cups)
- 1 cup water
- Juice of 1 lime
- Juice of 1 lemon
Garnish (Optional)
- cilantro (fresh chopped)
- Lime wedges
Instructions
- Wash and drain the canned black beans.
- In a medium sized frying pan or pot, on medium heat add the oil and diced onion. Sauté for 1-2 minutes or until translucent.
- Add the minced garlic. Sauté until fragrant, 1-2 minutes.
- Add the bay leaf, cumin, chili powder, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika and salt. Sauté for 1-2 minutes or until fragrant
- Add the drained and rinsed beans and 1 cup of water. Bring to a simmer and let simmer for 10-15 minutes or until thickened.
- Add the lime juice and lemon juice. Stir and season to taste with additional salt as desired. Serve and enjoy!
