Chocolate Chip Scones

Chocolate chip scones are downright delicious. They’re buttery and soft, with pockets of chocolate chips for a melty surprise in each bite. These homemade scones are great for an on-the-go breakfast or an afternoon snack when you’re craving something sweet!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter chilled
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heavy cream chilled
  • 1 large egg large
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together.
  3. Use a small grater to grate the cold butter into the dry ingredients. Use your hands to lightly mix the butter into the flour, followed by the chocolate chips.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the cream, egg and vanilla extract. Pour over the butter and dry ingredients and stir to combine. Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface and, trying to work it as little as possible, gently knead the dough until it all comes together into a ball. Gently flatten into an 8-9 inch disc. Use a sharp knife to cut into 6-8 equal pieces.
  5. Arrange the pieces on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each one. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown. Transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  6. In a small bowl add the chocolate chips and vegetable oil. Heat in the microwave in 20 second increments until fully melted and smooth. Drizzle over the top of the cooled scones and enjoy!
