Chocolate covered coffee beans

Chocolate covered coffee beans combine roasted coffee beans with melted chocolate, creating a crunchy, bittersweet treat. The coating process involves fully melting chocolate and stirring in the beans until each is well coated. Once coated, the beans are separated and placed on parchment paper to harden. This technique allows for a snack that balances the natural bitterness of coffee with the smooth sweetness of chocolate, and the beans offer a crunchy texture contrasted with the creamy coating.

Description

Chocolate covered coffee beans are made by coating roasted medium-to-light roast coffee beans in melted chocolate, which can be dark, milk, white, or ruby chocolate. The recipe involves melting chocolate gently, either in a double boiler or microwave, ensuring it does not burn. The beans are then stirred into the melted chocolate to fully cover each bean. Using two forks, the chocolate-coated beans are lifted and individually placed on parchment paper to cool and harden. This method creates individual pieces that are firm and crunchy with a glossy chocolate shell. The combination provides a rich coffee flavor softened by the sweetness and texture of the chocolate.

Because the recipe does not specify storing or serving suggestions, these can be enjoyed as a snack or used as a garnish or ingredient in desserts that benefit from the contrasting textures and bitter-sweet flavor.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 20 gram coffee beans medium to light roast works best
  • 60 gram chocolate dark, milk, white or ruby, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare your work area by laying out a sheet of baking/parchment paper or wax paper on your countertop. Also, place two forks within easy reach near your workspace.
  2. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler, or place a heatproof glass or metal bowl over a saucepan containing simmering water, making sure the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water.Alternatively, you can also melt the chocolate in the microwave. Give it a quick stir at 15-second intervals until melted. Be careful not to burn the chocolate.
  3. Once the chocolate is completely melted, remove the bowl from the heat and stir in all of the coffee beans at once.
  4. Move the beans around in the melted chocolate using a spoon or spatula to ensure that each individual bean is completely coated.
  5. Using one fork, lift a few chocolate-covered beans up and out of the bowl. Then, use the second fork to individually drop one bean at a time onto the prepared paper. If you have any beans sticking together, simply use the forks to gently pry them apart on the paper.
  6. Allow the chocolate coating to fully set and dry, which will take approximately 20 minutes at room temperature. For faster drying, you can place the beans in the fridge.
  7. If you'd like, you can do a second coating of chocolate by repeating the process to add an extra layer of chocolate around each coffee bean.
