Ingredients

  • 1-2 10-ounce bags semi-sweet chocolate chips see notes
  • 1-2 tablespoons coconut oil or shortening see notes
  • 1 12-ounce bag standard-size or jumbo marshmallows OR 1 batch homemade marshmallows
Optional decorations:
  • Sprinkles
  • Contrasting chocolate almond bark, or candy melts
  • Lollipop or cake-pop sticks

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, add the chocolate chips and coconut oil or shortening. Microwave for 1 minute. Stir well. Continue to microwave in 15-second increments, stirring after each, until the chocolate is melted and shiny.
  2. Use a toothpick to pick up each marshmallow and dip it into the melted chocolate. You can dip them either halfway or fully. If you are dipping homemade marshmallows, you may need to use a fork to help lift them out of the chocolate as they are lighter and fluffier than store-bought marshmallows.
  3. Use a fork or the edge of the bowl to remove excess chocolate from the bottom of the marshmallows. Set dipped marshmallows on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. If decorating with sprinkles, add them immediately while the chocolate is wet.
  5. If desired, you can drizzle the dipped marshmallows with a contrasting color of melted chocolate, almond bark, or candy melts for additional decoration.
  6. Let dipped marshmallows rest on the parchment in a cool place until the chocolate has set.
  7. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • How many bags of chocolate chips you need will depend on how fully you plan to dip your marshmallows. Fully dipping will require 2 bags; halfway dipping will require 1. Use 1 tablespoon of coconut oil or shortening per 10-ounce bag of chocolate chips.
  • Try dipping the marshmallows in white chocolate, dark chocolate, or even candy melts for different colors and flavors!
