Chocolate Hemp Milk
Chocolate Hemp Milk blends hemp hearts, cacao powder, dates, and vanilla to create a smooth, plant-based milk alternative. This dairy-free drink combines the nutty flavor of hemp with the rich bitterness of raw cacao and a natural sweetness from dates or maple syrup. The recipe uses soaking and blending steps to achieve a creamy texture that can be served chilled, making it a refreshing choice for those seeking a nutritious homemade beverage.
Ingredients
- 2 cups water divided
- 3 large Medjool date or 2½ - 3 tablespoons maple syrup, pitted
- ⅓ cup hemp hearts
- 3 tablespoons raw cacao powder or cocoa powder
- pinch of salt sea salt
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Add 1 cup water and the pitted dates to a blender. Let soak 5 to 10 minutes.
- Add the remaining ingredients but NOT the 2nd cup of water (we'll add that last). Starting on low, gradually increase the speed of the blender to high. Blend for about 30 to 45 seconds or until smooth.
- Add the 2nd cup of water and blend again. Taste and adjust salt, cacao, and sweetness as desired. If you'd like to enjoy the milk now, add a few ice cubes and blend again.
- If you didn't add ice, refrigerate the milk for 1 to 2 hours or until cold. Stir and enjoy.
Notes
- Store the hemp milk refrigerated and consume within 3 days for optimal freshness.
- Use either Medjool dates or maple syrup as sweeteners, adjusting to taste.
- For different flavors, try adding extracts like coffee, mint, almond, or orange.
- Omitting cacao powder creates a plain hemp milk alternative.
- Add spices such as cinnamon or chai to vary the flavor profile.
- For extra protein, incorporate a plant-based protein powder when blending.
