Christmas Peppermint Patties

These Christmas Peppermint Patties blend a sweet, minty center made from a thick dough of sweetened condensed milk, peppermint extract, and powdered sugar. After shaping into rounds and chilling, the patties are dipped in a glossy dark chocolate coating made smooth by vegetable oil. A slight crunch from optional holiday sprinkles adds festive texture. This candy balances creamy peppermint and rich chocolate, making for a refreshing holiday treat.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 3 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • holiday sprinkles optional

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. In a large bowl add condensed milk, peppermint, and powdered sugar. With an electric mixer blend well until a thick dough forms.
  2. Line two baking pans with parchment paper or wax paper. Sprinkle a light layer of powdered sugar onto a large, clean and flat surface like a cutting board or the counter.
  3. Place the peppermint dough on top of the powdered sugar. With a rolling pin roll the dough until it is ¼ inch thick.
  4. Using a small round cookie cutter that is 1 inch across, cut out the peppermint patties. Place the peppermint patties on the cookie sheet closely together but not touching. Reroll and repeat slicing the peppermint candies you have cut all the dough.
  5. Place the pans of peppermint patties into the refridgerator and chill them for 45 minutes.
  6. Once the peppermint patties have finished chilling, place the chocolate chips and oil in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring in between until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  7. Remove the peppermint candies from the refrigerator. Use a fork to dip each peppermint candy in chocolate.
  8. Place each peppermint candy back on the cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper. Sprinkle with sprinkles if desired.
  9. Place the peppermint candies back in the refridgerator for at least 30 minutes to set, then enjoy.

Notes

  • If chocolate extends beyond the peppermint edges after dipping, break away the excess once the chocolate has set for a cleaner look.
