This Christmas Puppy Chow recipe has the perfect combination of decadent chocolate, chunky peanut butter, and crunchy cereal coated in powdered sugar, with festive M&Ms and candy canes, making it the deliciously addicting festive sweet treat everyone craves!

Ingredients

  • 9 cups plain Rice Chex Cereal
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • 4 Tablespoons salted butter
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • teaspoons vanilla extract
  • cups powdered sugar
  • ¾ cup Christmas candy colored M&Ms
  • 3-4 candy canes crushed

Instructions

  1. In a small glass bowl combine chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter.
  2. Melt in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring each time until chocolate is all melted and ingredients are smooth and combined. (Alternatively melt on the stovetop using a double boiler)
  3. Stir in vanilla extract and salt.
  4. Pour the Chex mix in a large bowl, drizzle over the melted chocolate mixture.
  5. Mix very well to completely coat all the cereal in the chocolate. Let cool for 8 minutes. Scoop into a large gallon ziploc bag.
  6. Pour the powdered sugar into the ziploc bag. Seal and shake well to coat all cereal. Add in M&M's and candy canes, shake once more to combine.
  7. Pour into a bowl or on a large cookie sheet to serve.

  • Yield: Makes about 12 cups. A serving size is about 1 cup.
  • Store: This Christmas Puppy Chow will keep fresh in an airtight container or in a Ziploc bag at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
  • Freeze: You can easily make this Christmas treat in advance, or you may simply want to portion it out so that you don’t risk eating it all in one sitting, so freezing it is a great option. Once set, place the Puppy Chow in a Ziploc bag or freezer-safe container to keep it nice and fresh. Thaw or eat frozen (your choice).
