Ingredients

For the dough:
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour divided
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 envelope Fleischmann's® RapidRise™ Yeast
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
For the apple layer:
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 cups thinly sliced apples cored, skin on or off
For the streusel:
  • 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
For the glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ⅓ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Grease a 13x9 baking dish with baking spray. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 3/4 cup of the flour, sugar, undissolved yeast and salt.
  3. In a small saucepan, combine water, milk and butter over medium heat until very warm (about 120F). Add to flour mixture. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed of an electric mixer, scraping down sides of the bowl if needed.
  4. Add egg and 1 more cup of the flour. Beat an additional 2 minutes on high speed. Add in remaining 1/2 cup of flour and beat until a stiff batter forms. Turn into prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with about 1 Tbsp of flour and press gently with fingertips until spread evenly in pan.
  5. Arrange sliced apples over dough. In a small skillet, melt butter, sugar and cinnamon for the apple layer. Heat until bubbly and immediately pour over apples.
  6. In a small bowl, combine streusel ingredients until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples. Cover pan with a clean, dry towel and let rise in a warm, draft-free place for about an hour. Dough should double in size.
  7. Uncover and bake in a 375 degree F oven for about 25-30 minutes. Cool on wire rack before adding glaze.
  8. For the glaze, whisk together the sugar, cream and cinnamon until smooth. Drizzle over cooled cake. Slice and enjoy!

Notes

  • Gather and measure out all your ingredients for the cake ahead of time. Not only will it save time, but you’ll be less likely to forget an important ingredient.
  • Feel free to keep the skin on your sliced apples for added visual appeal!
  • To prevent your apples from browning once they’re sliced, toss them with a teaspoon of lemon juice.
  • Keep an eye on your rising dough. Depending on how warm it is in your kitchen, it may rise faster or slower than indicated.
