Cinnamon Apples

Cinnamon Apples offers a tender, softly spiced apple accompaniment made by simmering peeled and cored apples with vinegar and warming spices like cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. The gentle stovetop simmer thickens the apple juices into a fragrant, slightly tangy sauce that balances sweet and tart flavors. This warm side or dessert can be served immediately or chilled for up to 4 days, making it convenient for quick preparations or make-ahead plans.

Ingredients

  • 5 apple peeled, cored, and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Combine the apples, water, and vinegar in a saucepan, cover, and simmer over very low heat, stirring occasionally to make sure the apples don’t burn on the bottom of the pan, for 15 minutes.
  2. Uncover, stir, and add the cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt and stir again. The apples should be tender and the juices should be thick.
  3. Serve warm from the stove or store in the fridge for up to 4 days. Find our favorite serving suggestions in the post above.
