Cinnamon Apples

Cinnamon Apples offers a tender, softly spiced apple accompaniment made by simmering peeled and cored apples with vinegar and warming spices like cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. The gentle stovetop simmer thickens the apple juices into a fragrant, slightly tangy sauce that balances sweet and tart flavors. This warm side or dessert can be served immediately or chilled for up to 4 days, making it convenient for quick preparations or make-ahead plans.

Description

Cinnamon Apples combines peeled and cored apples simmered gently with water and apple cider vinegar to soften and infuse the fruit. Adding cinnamon, ground ginger, nutmeg, and a pinch of sea salt after the initial simmer creates a warm spiced aroma and depth of flavor. The simmering thickens the natural juices into a syrupy coating that clings to tender apple pieces, offering a balance between sweetness and a slight tang from the vinegar. This preparation is stovetop-based, requiring occasional stirring to prevent burning during its 15-minute cook time.

The resulting spiced apples work well as a warm side dish, topping for pancakes or oatmeal, or simple dessert. Their soft texture and mildly spicy flavor let them complement both sweet and savory dishes without overpowering.

These apples can be served freshly warm or refrigerated for up to four days, retaining their flavor and texture. Stir before serving if chilled.
