Cinnamon Scones are tender, soft scones with crisp edges made with butter, sour cream, and cinnamon chips topped with a sweet cinnamon glaze.

Ingredients

Cinnamon Chip Scones:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter frozen and diced, unsalted
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups cinnamon chips
  • heavy cream , for brushing
Cinnamon Glaze:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk whole
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

Cinnamon Chip Scones:
    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Add flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt to a large food processor.
  3. Pulse a couple of times to "sift".
  4. Add butter and pulse until it resembles small crumbs.
  5. Add sour cream and egg and pulse until large clumps form.
  6. Remove to a flour covered surface, add in the cinnamon chips and knead into a ball.
  7. Pat into an 8 inch circle with your hands.
  8. Cut into 8 wedges. Place onto baking sheet.
  9. Cover lightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  10. Brush tops with heavy cream and sprinkle coarse sanding sugar over the dough.
  11. Bake for 16-18 minutes.
  12. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from baking sheet.
Cinnamon Glaze:
  1. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  2. Drizzle over the scones and let dry for 20 minutes.
