Classic Irish Coffee
Classic Irish Coffee is a warm beverage combining hot brewed coffee with Irish whiskey and dark brown sugar, topped with slightly whipped heavy cream poured gently to float above the coffee. The layered presentation allows sipping the hot coffee through the cool cream, creating a smooth mix of temperatures and rich flavors.
Ingredients
- 4 ounces coffee hot brewed
- 1 ounce Irish whiskey
- 2 teaspoons dark brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons heavy cream
Instructions
- Fill an Irish coffee mug with warm water and allow the water to warm up the glass.
- Discard the water and pour the brewed coffee into the warmed mug. Add the Irish whiskey and brown sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Use a whisk to slightly whip the heavy cream until it is bubbly but still pourable. Gently pour the cream over the back of a spoon on top of the coffee. If desired, you can whip the heavy cream until it is firm and dollop it onto the coffee.
Notes
- Warm the serving mug before assembling the drink to help keep it hot longer.
- Pour the lightly whipped cream over a spoon to float it gently on the coffee without mixing.
- Maintaining separate layers allows tasting hot coffee through a cool cream topping, preserving the traditional experience.
