Coquito
Coquito is a creamy Puerto Rican coconut and rum-based drink blending coconut milk, cream, sweetened and evaporated milk, rum, vanilla, and cinnamon. It’s a chilled holiday beverage with a rich, smooth texture and warm spice notes from cinnamon, served cold and typically topped with additional ground cinnamon and a cinnamon stick for garnish.
Ingredients
- 14 ounces coconut milk (400ml)
- 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk (400ml)
- 14 ounces evaporated milk (400ml)
- 14 ounces coconut cream (400ml)
- ½ cup white rum ideally Puerto Rican rum such as Don Q, but Bacardi works well, Puerto Rican
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
To serve
- ground cinnamon
- cinnamon stick
Instructions
- Add the rum, coconut milk, condensed milk, evaporated milk, coconut cream vanilla, and cinnamon to a blender and whiz to combine.
- Pour into bottles and chill for at least 3 hours in the refrigerator.
- To serve, give it a stir, then serve cold in glasses and sprinkle with a little cinnamon (or nutmeg) and serve with a cinnamon stick.
- Coquito will keep in the refrigerator in a sealed container for up to 4 days.
Notes
- Chill the drink for at least 3 hours to fully develop the flavors and thickness.
- Authentic coquito uses Puerto Rican rum such as Don Q, but other white rums like Bacardi also work well.
- Stir the mixture before serving to recombine any ingredients that may separate during storage.
