Coquito
Description
Coquito blends four types of coconut and milk products with white rum and aromatics to create a rich and smooth traditional Puerto Rican drink. The combination of coconut milk, coconut cream, sweetened condensed milk, and evaporated milk produces a thick and creamy base. The addition of vanilla and ground cinnamon adds depth and a subtle warmth to the flavor.
The mixture is combined in a blender until smooth, then chilled in the refrigerator to meld the flavors and thicken before serving. When poured cold into glasses, a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg and a cinnamon stick garnish add aroma and visual appeal. The presence of rum brings a subtle alcoholic kick balanced by the creamy sweetness.
Coquito is commonly served during festive gatherings and is stored refrigerated in sealed containers for up to four days. Stirring before serving ensures any separation is reincorporated for a consistent texture and taste.
