Crispy Air Fried Onion Rings

Ingredients

  • 2 onions cut into 1/2" rings, medium onions
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 3 cups breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  1. Cut the onion into 1/2-1/3" thick rings and separate them into individual rings.
  2. In a shallow dish, combine the salt, pepper, garlic, and half the flour. Feel free to use additional spices to fit your tastes.
  3. In a separate shallow bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, baking powder, and remaining flour. *Batter will be thick.
  4. Roll onion rings into the dry mixture, coating thoroughly on all sides.
  5. Transfer the onion rings to the batter and once again, coat thoroughly.
  6. Pour Panko breadcrumbs onto a plate and roll the coated onion rings through.
  7. Place coated onion rings into air fryer basket, in single layer and cook at 375 degrees for about 10-12 minutes, turning over one time 5 minutes through.
  8. Once golden brown, remove from basket and serve with favorite sauce.
