Ingredients
- 450 g fresh okra
- 1 medium egg
- 2 tablespoon semi-skimmed or full-fat milk
- 40 g cornmeal
- 40 g plain white flour / all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Spray oil
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 195° C (380° F).
- Rinse the okra and pat it dry with a paper towel. Trim the ends if desired.
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together the egg and milk along with half of the paprika, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.
- In another bowl, mix the cornmeal and flour along with the other half of the paprika, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- Dip each okra pod into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat it thoroughly with the cornmeal mixture.
- Place the coated okra in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do it in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the okra pods.
- Lightly spray the okra with oil for added crispiness.
- Cook the okra in the air fryer for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking.
- Once the okra is golden brown and crispy, remove it from the air fryer and serve immediately.

Notes
- Select fresh and vibrant okra pods for the best flavor and texture. Look for pods that are firm, bright green, and free from any blemishes or soft spots.
- Before breading the okra, make sure to thoroughly pat it dry with a paper towel. This helps remove any excess moisture, ensuring a crispier end result.
- Slice the okra into even-sized pieces for consistent cooking. This ensures that all the okra pieces cook evenly and reach the desired level of crispiness.
- While cooking in the air fryer, give the basket a shake halfway through the cooking time. This helps to ensure that the okra cooks evenly on all sides.
- For the best texture and flavor, enjoy the crispy breaded okra immediately after cooking. The longer it sits, the more it may lose its crispiness.
