Crispy Fish Sandwich

Crispy Fish Sandwiches are fried pieces of fish with a boatload of flavor served on soft burger buns with a slice of cheese and tartar sauce.

Ingredients

Fried Fish:
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 1/2 pounds cod filets , cut into 6 ounce portions
  • vegetable oil for frying
Fish Sandwich:
  • 4 brioche hamburger buns
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter , optional
  • 1 cup tartar sauce , Recipe
  • 4 slices American cheese , or cheddar cheese

Instructions

Crispy Fried Fish:
    Cup of Yum
  1. In a large shallow bowl stir together flour, cornmeal, paprika, salt, pepper and cayenne pepper.
  2. Add 3 inches of oil to a large heavy pot and heat to 350 degrees on medium-high heat.
  3. Pat dry fish with paper towels, then dredge in the flour cornmeal mixture well.
  4. Add to oil and fry for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Remove to a cooling rack, don't place on tray or bottom will lose crispiness.
Fish Sandwich:
  1. Spread butter onto the buns and toast.
  2. Spread tartar sauce onto top and bottom buns.
  3. Add fish and top with American cheese slice.
