Crispy Shallots

Crispy Shallots are thinly sliced rings cooked gently in olive oil until golden and crisp. This method yields tender edges with a slight caramelization and reduces the oil used compared to deep frying. These shallots add a toasted onion flavor and crunchy texture that complements various dishes as a garnish or ingredient.

Ingredients

  • 4-5 shallot thinly sliced into rings
  • 1/4 cup olive oil or more as needed

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Slice the shallots into thin rings using a knife or mandoline.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Saute the shallot rings for about 5 minutes. Then, reduce the heat to low and continue to cook for another 3 to 4 minutes. Or until they're golden.
  3. Remove them from the pan to a paper towel lined plate or use right away for garnishing.

Notes

  • Continuously toss shallots during cooking to ensure even browning and prevent burning.
  • This recipe uses less oil than traditional deep-frying, reducing oil waste.
  • Store cooked crispy shallots in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
